PTE Academic UKVI is an approved, four-skill Secure English Language Test (SELT). It is the same test as PTE Academic, but includes a Unique Reference Number (URN) for your UK visa application.

For study visas

This test is accepted for a Student route visa (formerly known as the Tier 4 General student visa), for study:

    Below degree level (eg a foundation, pathways or professional English course) and/or
    Somewhere that is not a Higher Education Institution

Please note: if you are studying at degree level or above at a Higher Education Institution, you should take PTE Academic. Please check with your institution to confirm their specific English requirements.

    Skilled worker visa (formerly known as the Tier 2 General work visa)
    Start-up visa

FAQs

Can I take PTE Academic instead?

PTE Academic UKVI is the same test content as PTE Academic , but will give you a SELT Unique Reference Number (URN) to include on your UK visa application.

If you are studying an undergraduate or postgraduate course, then your institution might sponsor your student visa. This means they would issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) which is used instead of a URN for your visa application.

Please check whether your institution issues a CAS. If it does, then you can take either PTE Academic or PTE Academic UKVI.

What if I'm applying for a different work visa?

You should choose PTE Academic UKVI if you’re applying for a:

    Skilled worker visa (formerly known as the Tier 2 General work visa) 
    Start-up visa 
    Innovator visa 
    Minister of religion visa (Tier 2) 

You should take PTE Home A1 if you’re applying for a:  

    Sportsperson (Tier 2) visa  
    Representative of an Overseas Business visa
